Menu for the Chemical Formulas program.

The basics of a chemical formula - chemical symbols and subscripts - are introduced. Several examples of common compounds are shown.

Students produce the subscripts by dragging the oxidation numbers down to where they belong in the formula.

Ionic and covalent compounds are explained in detail.

After explaining the use of roman numerals students get practice. If correct - they get thumbs up. It's thumbs down and back to the beginning if they miss.

A big question for students is when to use parenthesis with compounds containing a polyatomic ion.

Three quizzes await the student at the end of the program: binary, ternary and compounds containing a transition metal - 90 questions total.
