After being instructed on the meaning of mass and volume, the student is introduced to the concept of density.

Using a balance to find mass and water displacement to find volume, students calculate the density of various substances.

The adventurer, Ohio Smith must swap sand for a statue. Students rearrange the density formula to solve for volume to determine how much sand Ohio must use to equal the mass of the gold statue.

Students are also shown how to rearrange the formula to solve for mass.

Before they take the electronic quiz the student reviews the procedure for calculating density in the Density Workshop.
