The Ion Chip Lab, like the Organic Model Toolkit, allows the student to construct models of compounds. |
|
Students are required to write 36 chemical formulas for ionic compounds then construct models of them using ion "chips". These ionic compounds contain: Group A metals, Transition Metals and Polyatomic ions. This is the work area for compounds containing an Alkali metal or Alkaline Earth metal. |

Dragging the chips out into the work area, students construct models of their chemical formulas. This helps them visualize the ratio of ions in a chemical fomula and see that the net charge in an ionic compound is zero. |
