The Ion Chip Lab, like the Organic Model Toolkit, allows the student to construct models of compounds.

Students are required to write 36 chemical formulas for ionic compounds then construct models of them using ion "chips". These ionic compounds contain: Group A metals, Transition Metals and Polyatomic ions.

This is the work area for compounds containing an Alkali metal or Alkaline Earth metal.

Dragging the chips out into the work area, students construct models of their chemical formulas. This helps them visualize the ratio of ions in a chemical fomula and see that the net charge in an ionic compound is zero.
