The Organic
Chemistry program begins with a introduction to the element
carbon - the element found in all organic
matter.
Students are
introduced to hydrocarbons and instructed on how to name and
draw models of alkanes, alkenes and alkynes.
3-D molecules as
well as drawn structural formulas are shown throughout the
program enabling students to visualize both
models.
Cyclic hydrocarbons,
alcohols and organic acids are next.
Explanations are given as
to their structure and naming.
A short review goes
over the different types of organic compounds covered in the
program.
Though out the
program students are directed to the organic model toolkit.
Here they construct models of straight chain and cyclic
hydrocarbons as well as alcohols and organic acids by
dragging atoms and bonds on to the work
area.
Students are quizzed
on families, structures, names, and properties of simple
organic compounds.
