Wacassasa river but the campgrounds no longer exist and
there was a fishing tournament so went to Cedar Key instead.
Camped at Shell Mound 5 miles out of Cedar Key - noseeums
were out in the day but left at sunset. Airboat launch yards
away from our campsite provided a morning alarm.
Paddled out into the Gulf from Shell Mound on Friday,
Seahorse and Atsena Otie Keys on Saturday (grouper
sandwiches at Frog's Landing, Cedar Key on Saturday night)
and on to Chassahowktzka River Sunday. Weather: highs in the

Weather: Mid 80's, windy, partly cloudy |
Paddling: Headed down to the lower lake. On the way Dave had a monster of a bass (jumped out of the water so we knew he was huge. Only problem is that he was on the other side of a tree across the water. Dave lost him but one of the biggest bass I've seen in Myakka. Water extremely low in the river - the lake was two feet deep at the max. Paddled across the lower lake and fished near the big hole. Dave caught some nice size bass while I snagged two nice size talapa. Both Doug Abbot and Greg also caught some nice fish. |
